Btw the comment on the animals i've kept isnt to try and say..' i was better at keeping herps than u at a younger age' or anything of the like guys. I just thought I'd share it to prove to this lad age isnt an excuse for things like this.. theyres loads of guys on this forum who were keeping and breeding things ALOT younger than I was. Some one was breeding lizards I think at 6 ??

Theres no excuses. You preach to other people about good husbandry, but you don't (or didn't practise it). Age isn't an excuse, nor an acceptable reason to subject your animals to suffering or to avoid using YOUR OWN good husbandry rule. How dare you preach to OTHER people when you have caused SO many problems for your animals.

I'd suggest we not here you preach about good husbandry and how nobody gives their pets this again..as it includes you.

Not trying to take sides here, and I generally agree with you, JD, but I do sympathize a little with Loco. In my early herp-keeping years (11-13 yrs old), I did the following:

- kept a leopard gecko on sand and he died of impaction (I think)
- starved a hognose snake to death (thought it would hibernate)
- kept a bearded dragon without UV lighting and it eventually died

...and years later, I tried my ball pythons on mini corncob litter. My beautiful female soon later died and an ammature autopsy (performed by myself) revealed a death from impaction. (this was when that litter was becoming popular for reptiles and there wasn't much reviews out about its safety)

Am I proud of all that? Absolutely not. It wasn't that I didn't care about my pets. In those cases, I was just simply ignorant and genuinely thought that I was keeping them correctly and safely. One could say that I shoulda researched these matters better before getting the animals and they'd probably be right.

My main point is that I don't really think its fair to judge someone by their past mistakes (regardless of their age).

However, one should be able to learn from them and also know their place on the "experience-level food chain."

This is fair enough Ophi. I honestly do agree. The reason I'm flaming Loco though is cause he does parade about on some threads, and starts a speech on most threads, about GOOD HUSBANDRY and he can't understand why people don't give animals good husbandry and so many don't blah-de-blah..And tbh, I think you'll understand when I say I think this is quite frankly, cheeky. Lik you said, he shoud learn from it, and as he says, he has learn from it.

My point is if he has had the oppurtunity to learn from it, then why the heck is flaming others for the same mistakes he made? If he really feels the need to judge, he should advise; not critisise. Some people (including him) are quick to judge and have a go at seemingly older members for not knowing better, when they shouldn't, or if they think they should be aloud to, they should take responsibilities for their times when they didn't know better..even if it was 7 years ago ;)

People make mistakes unfortunately. I think if loco was 8 at the time, we should let it go. But kid that doesn't give you the right to come dancing in here, making 800 posts in a month and acting like the king of herpetoculture. Loco, you certainly like to name-drop and while you may think it makes you super-cool, I personally don't care. But if you really admire all these successful herpetologists and herpetoculturists, why not take a few minutes and learn something from them that isn't about reptile husbandry. No matter how much knowledge and experience some of these people have, they've never talked down to me when I've asked their advice.

It's interesting to follow the evolution of this thread from a question about artificial plants to where it is now. Seems that's been happening a lot lately.

Loconorc is representative of one aspect that I hate about herpetoculturists as a whole. There are good individuals, but if you have to judge them collectively... I find most of them take the hobby way too seriously. No matter how much you read or take care of an animal, there will always be another hobbyist that have the same success that was yield with other techniques.

Seriously, rather than being a know-it-all prick like the rest of the bunch, just do what the aquarists do: talk about their experiences; they are not regurgitating facts. If it seem like if it is a personal attack, it is not. I have this problem with people in my province in real life as well as online.

Now to answer the original poster's question: I use artificial silk plants with my Crested and my Crocodile Skink from the local DIY stores, dollar stores, etc. If there is any exposed metal, make sure you find one that doesn't have a metal rod for their safety. If you can't avoid this, then wrap it in a colour-matching tape. My boa setup is different, so I can't really comment on the best way to use them.

Whats making you think I disagree with yall?

Am I expected to defend myself now? I dont really need to. What you all just said is pretty much what I try to say ALL THE TIME, maybe Im just a bad communicator?
