As If I Don't Have Enough Projects - Pond Construction

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really? We have some pretty darn tough clay here too. And for me, just a plain old shovel was working better, as the pick would only take out a little bit at a time.

digging by hand is dedication. i would have found a friend with a back hoe. or even renting one for a day would have probably been worth it. probably have it dug out in half hr.

this is great pete, im hopeing one day soon ill be able to build my own pond, kinda hard when you dont own a house XD

Hey, its good exercise, cheap (i.e. free), and very satisfying to know that you dug that pond by hand.

you must have had softer clay, abit at a time or not, the shovel would simply bounce off.

Well, we had it tough going for a while, but then we had a series of thunderstorms that kept the pit full of water for a couple of weeks. It was a lot softer digging after that, even if we looked like mud monsters when we came up out of the pond afterwards.

ah that makes sense, we don't see rain too often in AZ so the soil is almost always dry.

at any rate digging stage for me is done, (and this time I mean it lol, no more digging it bigger)

it looked like pete was pretty close to his depth last update so i'd imaging he's done digging as well.

Not done yet.

Bought a 2" shower drain, a length of pipe, and a swing 90 to plumb up a drain.

Hoping to be finished digging, have the drain plumbing connected to the settling tank, and have the liner in before Sunday.

The clay is thick, but a shovel can still manage through it.
