As If I Don't Have Enough Projects - Pond Construction

As your not going that deep you could in theory but a proper aerated bottom drain and when you change ponds add an pipe connector(solvent weld) to extend the run and the concrete it into the new pond.

It's not ideal but you look at the cost of a huge pond build this is just a small part that can just about get away with it?

You can't use one of those green screens you find with the non-schedule 40 pipe in the plumbing department of Lowes/HD?

Nah, all an atrium grate would do is trap the leaves. I need the dome like the professional bottom drains. They deflect the fish without stopping the leaves. Sure, small fish will be sucked up, but not anything that could clog the drain. I'm probably going to fabricate one out of a plastic mixing bowl. I can probably use 1/2 pvc and two long screws to make legs for it. The shower drain has to screw holes in it for the grate already.

Go figure, I start digging in the pond and it starts raining. Guess I'll go paint on the tank.

Moved about 8 wheel barrow loads of dirt out of the hole today. Almost all of the pond is at 30" or thereabouts now. I'm going to make a 6' x 14' frame out of 1/2" pvc to use to square up everything. I don't really want to put plywood against the walls. Maybe I'll get some thin press board, but I will probably skip it altogether. The 2x6 frame around the top with some inset 2x4s should be enough. I'm not really concerned about making this last a long time. I mostly want to demonstrate my liner folding technique in an actual build and have a pond to put fish in until November when it starts getting too cold to have tropicals outside. I plan to buy some juvenile koi to grow out or maybe some high fin banded loaches

Plywood shouldn't be necessary if you make the walls smoothish. Just use old carpet for underlayment in the hole.
