Asain Arowana kept togther?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
aro comms are very common.
in asia, especially where it is cheap to have arownas, people always have many arowanas in one tank.

like cichlids, just slightly more complicated, the more you have the lesser the aggression is focused on one fish.
so, best if you have lots of aros.
3 i hear is really h it and miss.
i hear 5 to 7 is always good. but you need a big tank.

also, odd numbers are supposed to be good.
i have seen videos of even number tnaks, and the aros pair up and fight.
with an odd number, this will mean one is free to swim around and distract others.

how it works APPRENTLY, is that the aros will try to challenge another, then another tries to challenge him, and another tries to challenge the challenger etc and so on, so the aggression breaks down.
people say that there are situations where the arowanas will have one ALPHA, trick is to take out alpha and reintro, re arrange tank.

also, recommendations of putting power heads on the top and mid section of water and make it strong, so this distracts the arowanas so they dont get the change to challenge before they get the powerhead push them. (power heads also help enlarge arowanas size prividing there is enough food!)

also feeding a lot will ensure they are always sedated and settled and not on HUNT mode.

i would not try 2 or 3 or 4 arowanas, i would try 5 and above personally.

I am going to start a aro comm project soon.
3 black, 1 silver and 1 large red.
the red is the most expensive so i will intro the the other arowanas at 35 cms, red is 51cms.
this will ensure the red is top dog.

ill see how it goes.

here are tanks with multiple asian aros.

the first video, is quite a large tnak.

IMO, normally SA aros are easier to com, Asian aros are harder. You have to careful of ur larger red killing the rest. In Asia we normally buy a batch from the same brood. Thats the easiest way to have a successful com. If you must mix, its better to have all similar in size. Thats my take on it.

all of the above :iagree:

The first one is my tank its 500g its been running for about 2 years. there is still some aggression i dont think the tank will ever be 100% peaceful but its nothing crazy.
the worst thing that happens is the aros bang they head on the top of the tank when they get into scuffles. that could of been avoided by having a taller tank where the top is 6 inches above the water line

i got most of the fish within a year so the size difference was not crazy. i also had a silver that got real big real fast so he was like the quiet nice boss for a while.
eventually a SR took over. Had lots of other fish at the begining ( 5 dats, bunch of silver dollars, FRT ) they seem to distract the arowana.
Also i found that green arowana are not well suited for comm tank they seem to always be the most aggressive without being the most dominant. so they instigate lots of trouble.
When arowana pair in a comm its not good. They violently took over half of the tank so tank looks always unbalanced 2 aro on on side and 8 in the corner . it was cute for a while specially when they do theyre love dance and moves but nothing else happened beside that. So i sold the one fish i liked less in the pair Malaysian xb vs Classic RTG guess who won the contest.

its fun but your arowanas are never "mint" I will take a new video and post it, the tank the fish are bigger now.
