Asian aro, Food?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my jardini is only small but he loves blood worms and will also take dry food
he does not seam to like feeders yet he only kills them then leaves them for something
eles to eat it

My aro eats shrimp but when I feed him superworms, he then refuses shrimp for the next few days. He seems to get spoiled by the live food and then I have to retrain him to take shrimp. Is it possible to cut out the superworms completely and just feed shrimp? Or is this too little nutrition/variety? He used to eat pellets but not any more. I have 2 rays in the same tank and they only eat shrimp and worms

I feed my aro and rays 3 times a day (the aro is 8" in size and the rays are about 12").

I know it's not very much, but HOORAY!!! :)

My 7 inches HBRTG that I've had for almost 3 months has finally eaten 2 Hikari food sticks tonight. Followed the advice of others and broke them in halves. Unbelievable my aro has finally taken it's first step into eating pellets. AWESOME!!!

I've tried to starve my aro about two other times, but gave in both times at about one week. Started feeding my fish its live food again such as mealworms and crickets.

Anyway, this time during the third starvation attempt I made sure I was completely out of live food. Told myself I was going to be strict and not purchase any more live food from the LFS. Gotta be stern and have discipline and not break the rule of buying any more mealworms and crickets until my aro was pellet trained.

Every day I'd throw some pellets, but my aro wouldn't eat it and eventually it became my pleco bottom feeder's meal. Tonight my aro finally ate 2 pellets broken into pieces. Last time I fed my aro any live food was Saturday morning, it's now Tuesday evening.

It took 3 days of starvation and it was the third time trying the starvation process to finally WIN!!!

Feel almost like a very proud father! :p
