Hey guys
I have 2 Asian aros in a 160gl separated and they both lik to hide. I have sum drift wood on both sides and they both hide in caves between the drift and the glass . Water perams are good they both eat lots and I do 30 to 40 percent wc a week also vac the gravel when doin wc. My red has alwas chilled at the bottom but my xback just started a week ago.couple hours he'll swim around then later on he'll go in his cave lol. Anyone elses Ro do this?
Thx for ur input

If they are eating, and otherwise acting normal, I believe that the problem is that they are afraid of you or of something else.

Dimm the light. Cut on those wc's ( %wise ) and cut on that gravel vacuuming. Do it once a month, or even more separated.

That's wat I thought As well but he's rlly active threw the day and about 5 o'clock he goes down. And there's less traffic in the lobby the later it gets.I'll post sum pics later today when I go to work
Thx

if you have hiding places most fish will use them remove the drift wood and any other hiding places

you say your water parameters are fine but what are they

Did I seriously just read fish people suggesting to cut down on water changes and remove hiding spots to make a fish feel more secure?! :WHOA:

Usually adding more hiding spots does the trick. If there's a place they can hide not far from wherever they are in the tank, they will usually be out more because they know they can hide at a moments notice.

I can imagine you typing your astonishment witk a face like your avatar.

I sugegsted to cut on the % of the wc. He does not need such a turnover.

I suggested, yes, to cut on the gravel vacumm . That may be spooking the aros...

Sorry. :D

Richard, I have many aro's, all with pieces of driftwood in the tanks. None has ever hid.

To the op, if your aros are less than about 8", this is fairly normal in larger tanks.

As requested above, what are your parameters? Aros can become skittish in tanks where ammonia or nitrites are present.

Yes they can.

BUT do they eat with gusto as the OP describes?
