Endangered in the wild, and even the farming still has not increased the number in the wild. Endangered species act studies the count in the wild and not the ones beng farmed. Unless someone starts releasing fish in the wild to popuplate the numbers in the wild, it will continue to be endangered, therefore not lawful to collect.

Because they are on the endangered species list, they ar e however being legally bred in south florida near miramar

I think the authorities are more concerned with the over abundance of meth factories in my town, than illegal pet fish. I'm a git me one!

The police maybe but Cali fish and game have nothing better to do you have been warned

yeah! :cool-1:

I think the issue is will "we" further the species endangerment by our actions or will we do everything the tryuly right way to save a secies we harvested to near extinction. All the indivuals add up. So is buying an asain harming the species regardless of certain laws?? To tell you the truth, I don't know the answer here, I'd like some more facts.

Thats pretty cool I guess. But what are they doing captive breeding for in FLA? Just to meet the demand for asian aros in US public aquariums?

I second that question. There is NO demand for these animals in the zoo world. In fact, we get them FREE thanks to all of those who get caught bringing them into the US. I had over 50 of them when working in Dallas. We had no clue what to do with them all.
There is no legal captive breeding in the US that I am aware of.

So why are public aquariums alowed ti have them?
Educational and research pruposes so the special permit will say

what is the difrence there?
the average aquarist is not recognized as a public educational facility nor a research unit of one

does it matter who owns the aro?
apparently yes it does
