I have found shops who sell them in NYC. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one in the basement of a shop. Anyone else in NYC experience the same thing

Although there are surprising amount in the USA i wouldn't risk it . Forums are watched for people posting and even hinting at owning one

Just after a species was banned it is quite common to see those still around (seeing it right now with the new EU bans) but arowanas are well-known to be banned so that's surprising.
Well I'm not encouraging or promoting anyone here to break local laws but I was under the impression that you can't really buy these fish even in the black market people don't want to take the risk. Well i won't be taking the risk. I can't afford it and I definitely can't afford the fee for getting caught with one. Something to consider anyone who thinks about taking that chance.
