are u the admin on that site wizzin?

yes. I've registered the project as a non-profit org with the US government, as a suggestion from the usfws.

The problem I'm facing is one I never expected when I started digging into this. From the beginning, the people I've been working with have known that there would need to be a 3rd party, non profit hobbyist group to make this whole thing work. Of all the hurdles I knew I'd face, finding people who are interested in importing Asian aros and conserving them was the least of my worries.

Now, it turns out that for the most part, US hobbyists have either lost hope, or are so convinced that there is no hope that nobody is willing to try. It would be a real shame if the reason this failed was due to lack of interest.

That's where I'm at. I'm trying to guage interest and gain support. If it fails at this level, then I guess all hope is lost.

hope aint lost, it jus gets old trying as you are not the first person to dig around and in this. u need to advertise the website more, not just mfk. go on arofanatics n see if there are people on there willing to help. u know im down to help. but my hope is almost lost. i could walk down the street and buy an asian arowana if it was the big a deal on keeping one. green's are less then 400 bux.

half the people wouldn't even bother to make it legal, as they already own them legal or not. i know of hundres of peope who have them but never (i mean for over 15 years) never get caught. so makin them legal has pretty much been dropped as they jus keep them anyway cuz they already know the govt wont turn this decision. it could be a possibility and im all for it dude. but i hope u understand what im trying to say.

I know, and I do understand. I've been plastering this on every aro board I can find. I also agree that it's not enough. That's why I need people to take this site to any clubs they may be part of outside the web community.

Also understand that this has become (for me at least) more than just getting them "legalized". This is now about conservation of a species. The same was done for Pandas, Tigers and Elephants. I'm starting this organization because there is a need for it, and the benefits we hobbyists reap from the work is only a secondary goal at this point.

From talking with the people throughout the world who are engaged in the conservation of Asian arowanas, there is a chance for them still. There needs to be more public awareness, more care, and more money. That's what the Save the Arowana Foundation aims to do.

Right now, it's a non-profit group. The goal is to next incorporate the organization, and to become a charity. For that I need a board of directors. To get a board of directors I need people. This has to be a group of people working together. Not just me. I know I'm not the first to "dig into this", but I hope to be the first to make "something" happen.

I really miss buying asian aros for $39.99 on 1-footers. Let's try an reinvigorate the 20+ year waning efforts to get these ]V[onsters back into the US hobbyist's aquaria.
