Asian Arowana petition!

The already high demand and limited farm space is severely diluting the prehistoric bloodline of these amazing fish, not to mention adding further pressure to the virtually extinct wild species. I fear the industry nor the bloodline would survive such immense demand.

I don't mean to start a redundant debate here but can you shed a little light on how such a demand for the the fish would pressure the wild species when it is the colorful farmed types that everyone seems to want.

Quite simply, there are still people fishing for the few remaining wild species for a number of reasons. Catching fully mature wild MG (for example) would be worth a fortune in itself. Then take into account that this person could use the fish to breed from an original gene pool an make even more money. The higher demand on farms only increases the watered down gene pool, encourages further cross breeding and slowly but surely makes the rare privilege of owning a 100% wild Arowana unattainable, thus lucrative. It sounds like you may be under the impression that wild Arowana acquire less colour. I can assure you, a wild MGXB is bigger, stronger and equally, if not more colourful than anything in captivity.
