Asian Arowana purchase guidance

Hi everyone, I’m looking to get this Asian arowana. It’s got a defect from birth and the gills are visible. Could it have a problem long term or will it be as normal?

I think it will be fine only if nothing bites it in that area. The juvenile asian aro looks very healthy.

Short gill plate is a genetic deformity. Who knows what other deformities it may have that will affect its health as it grows. I wouldn’t risk it personally unless you’re getting it super cheap. Up to you though

I think maybe it had gill curl and that someone has done the operation on it? I've never seen exposed gill as a birth defect before, always as a result of gill curl. I think 50% off normal price would be fair, maybe even 66%. In terms of health, the exposed gill should not be a major issue in my opinion.
