Don't post if you are going to preach peta crap...

**Damn embedding not working**
Flying Carp

This isn't a vid of the contest, and I can't find for the life of me info on it, but I know it exists.

Basically you go out there with other boats and are armed with nets, bats, anything blunt and the purpose is to cull as many as you can.

DNR wants them culled, bottom line, and quite frankly it looks like fun, but you CAN get hurt.
I will keep looking for info, but let me know if you are in to get a group together this year.
Nick

um why do you have to beat them why not just use some sort of product or maybe since they do jump out of the water just catch them and kill them instead of beating them with bats

I remember seeing these kids beating carp in a small pond, they had those mini baseball bats that you can buy at baseball games. They were using pitch forks to catch them and toss them up on land then beat the carps with the bats. A little to violent to kill an animal to me but i guess it could be worse.

I wanna go haha and by hitting them
It kills them too and it costs way cheaper then to introduce chemicals into the water or into the fish and if Asian carp were to get into lake michigan which some are they will reproduce like crazy and kill off the fish and fishing supply in Chicago. Which then again will create more economical issues then we already have now. Either way they need to go
Because they are ruining rivers

Most use nets, some use other things.
Personally I would rather catch them than swing.

No matter what they are a major threat here and need to be destroyed.
Sorry if it bothers some people.

They break people's noses by freaking and jumping into boats, why would a bat not be the same :P

Yes: they even have electric barriers, and one happed to be caught last year WAAAY too close.
Here is the scoop:

NPR Asian Carp

DAVID: While environmental DNA of Asian Carp had previously been detected in waterways leading into Lake Michigan, this is the first discovery of an actual live Asian Carp anywhere near entering the Great Lakes, according to John Rogner of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

ROGNER: "This fish was about 20 pounds in weight, about 35 inches long. It was netted in Lake Calumet. Lake Calumet is connected to the Calumet River and it is immediately upstream from the O'Brien Lock and Dam and that's about six miles from Lake Michigan itself."

DAVID: That means if there are other Asian Carp nearby there is nothing preventing the invasive species from getting into Lake Michigan. Scientists fear the huge, voracious Asian Carp could crowd out native species in the Great Lakes and damage a $7 billion dollar a year fishery.

There is plenty more info out there, this was a quick find.
So yeah, they must go

Do they come from waters where you cant eat them? Why not save em all and smoke em? Smoked carp is yummy. I was always taught if you kill it eat it. People had the same notion about bowfin (dogfish) here in MN because they are "agressive", and you can always see them dried up on the shore or in trash cans. I caught a 7 lb one once, killed it and ate it. People need to learn to respect what they kill. Not preaching peta, but I doubt a bunch of goons with bats on a boat are gonna dent their population.

The point is to actually bring them in, ideally actually killing them in the boat (humanely) instead of batting them into the water.
IDK if they are good eating or not.

Yeah, well if your not eating them, at least see if you can donate them to a local hobby farmer or something to use as fertilizer. Just an opinion of a fisherman and fishkeeper:headbang2

Completely agree the fun way is to go bow fishing lol but they have to go no questions asked they are a terrible species of fish that will
Kill Chicago and the fishing supply here. Idk what could possibly kill those things in the water. Like muskeys or pike?? I just know we have to make sure
Those things don't get into lake michigan. I'm up for bashing those things idc what people say.
