I've kept and bred orange chromides before. They're pretty adaptable to both fresh and brackish water. I kept mine with a little sea salt and also in pure fresh. They lived and bred in both.

They can be more aggressive with each other than you might imagine.

Green Chromides get BIG but are a fish that I'd like to try some day. Jeff Rapps had some in stock recently. If you've got a big tank and are looking for something pretty peaceful and out of the ordinary, give them a try.

Like Matt said, suratensus (the Greens) can get quite large, mine grew to at least 12"L. They are mainly vegetarian and like warm (mid 80s) brackish water.

they are the only cichild found in Asia. originated from India. I had caught few in my fishing trip in one of the freshwater canal in Singapore

I live in Sri Lanka, and in here 2 cichlids are native.
Etroplus maculatus
Etroplus suratensis
and also Etroplus canarensis is a asian cichlid.
