Just got a ARTC about 5 inches this Friday. He is currently in my 240 gallon tank with a 10 inch CK and a 8 inch Aro. I made a small cave for him so that the CK wont eat him-seems to be working. I feed him shrimp and tilapia using tongs to bring the food to his cave-so he wont have to come out. Question is when he gets big will he kill his mates. Ive heard they are really aggressive-but I have seen ARTC with tank mates such as the ones I have him with?

It really depends on the fish. For example my rtc and tsn don't bother smaller fish. others aren't so lucky. From what I have seen/heard about these guys I would expect it to attack the others once large enough. Size of tank doesn't seam to lower their aggression much ether sense arapimaman had one in his 15k and it still went after other fish.

my art lived for years with a red devil and they got along well always. to me it always depend on the individual fish themselves and not so just the species of fish....

I got a 3/4 inch albino asian redtail cat 6 weeks ago put him in with 4 4inch goldfish and he killed them the first week and I was feeding him everyday I have never owned a fish so aggressive I won't dare put anything with it it's already 5 inches

ur making ur animal a panzy by feeding it with tongs happens wiht gulpers too, keep on feeding it manually and watch what happens. on a side note my rtc was about 25 inches ate like a monster let me pet it too

I got my rtc sometime in late september and it was about three inches long. A few weeks later I noticed some of my smaller fish were going missing during the night. I quickly moved him in with my large albino tiger oscar and my lima shovelnose. He has grown to about 7 or 8 inches in three months. He's highly aggressive. I just had a tank with a leak in the bottom seam the other night so I had to drain it, and I placed my two 5 inch koi in the tank, just for a temporary home until I repair their tank. Well, the next morning I had to remove them, someone tried to eat one, unsuccessfully. He's pretty bad off right now, but I suspect he'll pull through with some melafix. I love my redtail and wouldn't trade him for anything, he's just awesome. I feed him frozen silversides nightly, keeps him happy and healthy.
