Asian RTC recommended tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally, the only way I'd want anything to do with this fish is if it was on the other end of my Penn Spinfisher 750. I personally don't see the point in a fish that gets that big that is that antisocial. You'd need a tank comparable to arapaimag's setup in order for that fish to play nice!

ahhh, I think, based on what ive been told here, ill give the artc a miss! in the future I was thinking of building a 10' x 5' for a RTCxTSN hybrid. Would that accommodate?

imho no. our 10' diam pool isn't a large enough footprint imo to even try it. It seems like a lot but when they start hitting 2'+ there really isn't enough "private space" even then for big cats. and with the ARTC's rep even less of a reason to chance it... But on that note the aba aba knife has a similar rep and a few people have housed them in community set-ups ( JDM style and personally not my idea of ethical fishkeeping ie stuff a bunch of big fish in a tank thats large enough to house them as adults... but overstock the crap out of it. much as you see done w/ African cichlids sometimes. So nobody can claim a territory but every now and then the lowest fish on the totem pole gets whacked because of the constant vieing for territory.)

Under good conditions this hybrid will reach 3.5' faster, in ~3-5 years. Should reach 4' in 10-20 years. About the same space requirements as for ARTC, IMO.

a 10' x 5' x 5' would come to 1485 gallons.
With just one RTCxTSN hybrid. If this is to small, what would the appropriate dimensions be? what if I wanted to add tankmates? Sorry for all the questions but I am truly curious haha

If ur gonna keep it for life ur gonna want more than 1500 one of my lfs had a 4'x2' rtc that was 13 years old named frankie was super awesome to check out but they had it in a 1500 gallon tank it out grew it granted it was an 8'x5'x10' tank it was super tall the stand was 3 1/2'-4' tall then the tank was like 12-15 foot tall but even then this didn't work for them and they donated it to a local wildlife world zoo as they call it they have a river monsters exhibit there only place I know of in az to have a school of huge pirhanas
