But to the original Q, I wouldn't mix the discus w/ the aro, too much stress on the discus, which leads to disease, which your aro could catch. Discus best kept in its own tank.

It can be done. I've done it but with silvers and some members on here have too. My silvers are around the 2 ft+ range and the discus are not even afraid of them at all. They even fight for food.
