if you use cute fish with a bubbler, she will think u got them as a gift for her. then you will have to say "no, you don't know how to care for them. they will die if you take them (read--> FISHKILLER girl who can't have the gift) they go in my tank". then you'll look all selfish in front of everyone & she will think u r a heartless dirtbag, as you walk away REJECTED, with the cute little fishies.
public displays make guys look like showoffs. which they are.
ask her alone. just say if she isn't already spoken for, you'd really like to take her to homecoming.. Dinner at her fave restaurant, if she's inclined. say "I wonder what YOUR idea is, of making the best HC memory EVER, 'cuz that's what I'd like.." Then listen.

If "yes", bring flowers, treat her with respect and have FUN.
be polite to the waitress/waiter too, bcuz it matters.
That was one of my first eliminator tests. If a guy was not gracious to waiters, he was OFF my list. Never again.
I still believe that shows a person's true colors. even in the cheapest restaurant in the world.
