i think my assassin snail might not be doing its job. i still see other snails in my tank. do u think its because my assassin eats some of the left over krill and gets full so he doesn't hunt for the other snails? any one?

They might be breeding faster than the snail can kill them. I had 4 assassin snails in my 75G and they could barely keep the others in low numbers.

They are not huge and voracious eaters, maybe a pest snail a day and they go for the easiest prey first. If you are feedinga heavy meaty diet, they will eat that first. I prefer to put my assassins in their own tank and then pick out all the adult pest snails to feed them. This contorls where the assassins lay their eggs and also prevents teh adult pest snails from laying more egg clutches.

often their impact is not seen quickly, it takes time for a noticeable dent in pest snail populations. As they pick off the ones reproducing, the population of pest snails will noticeably wane. Give it a few months.

Question: I've seen all of my assassin snails go to "sleep" for a while in the sand- what's that supposed to mean?

they like to hang out in the sand, often they will lay in wait there to ambush. Its also just a comfortable place for htem. Nothing to be concerned about

how do you get rid of the assasin snails after they start to breed?

No worries. They aren't like pest snails. There will only ever be enough to clean up after you.
