I know most folks suggest keeping these guys in groups, but a buddy of mine has a solo 12" fish looking for a home.

Any experience with singles? Especially one this large. Thanks!

They are a fabulous and beautiful fish to keep, need a bit more flow than some of the lacustrine types. The males can be territorial, and I would imagine a 12" loner may not play well with others, could be wrong though.
If I had the chance to get a group, I'd try them again.
 
Beautiful cichlid! I kept a few in a 265 gallon with a few Rhytisma and they got along well. I've never seen one that size, must be amazing!
 
12"..my goodness. I've never seen one that large let alone kept solo so i too couldn't answer the question of how well he'll play with others. Currently have a group of 4(1M 3F) @ 6" that i keep with rostratus. Here's a couple of photos i took about a 1 year ago.

Beautiful fish guys! Yeah, hes been up at our lfs for about 8 months now and the owner keeps asking if I'm ready up adopt lol. I've been on the fence....,

He's big and in a lfs setting he tends to look washed out so he doesn't get the oohs and ahhs like the Amphs and Gts around him do, but he is a beautiful specimen for sure and I can see great potential in a much larger tank.

Thinking maybe the 210 with other 12" + fish or maybe even the Festae 300. I just hate seeing a fish sit for that long ..... Especially one you don't see every day.

He definitely does. Been looking at Gage's list for awhile and always saw 1.5" fish there but nothing this big. Just not sure how he plays with other big fish. My large female jag (12") loves to play worth other fish, but not sure he'll get the message lol. Worth a try though, as he'll probably just sit there ......he's so damn big.

Ok Josh, where are all the decent sized females ......??
