hey all, ive done a bit of a google search on astroturf in the fishtank and come to the conclusion im gonna test some in my 5 gallon... i ordered a enough for my 150g cichlid community too, if all goes well! i know everyone says its gonna leak this an that and do terrible things but as theres no actual evidence that ive found... well other than lots of people voiceing what they think'll happen... either way its all made differently in different places by different companys and i figure some of it must be safe? im gonna give it a go anyway! :WHOA:

the reptile dudes use it in humid vivs with no ill affects!!!

i'll try it first with a hardy cichlid and pleco keeping a close eye, then i plan too throw in something more fragile, maybe a neon or guppy.....

ive bought some commecial grade 40mm soft graded mating with a woven tarpooling style base, its on its way from an ebay seller, i'll keep you all updated on my guinea pig tank!

anyone ever tried it?
what you think?

Hello; Installed a lot of artifical turf in my day. Never in a tank so no idea about any toxic issues. Will be of interest keep us posted. Not sure about the type you ordered, but suspect it may float?

yeah i thought it might, ive got some large river rocks, they may need to be strategically placed lol... may add to the effect if it floats a little! hope its not too bouyant tho!!!

been thinking i might give it a good few soaks in a hot bath in an attempt to remove any nastys (maybe chemicals solvents and like).

i did read an artical from the usa saying some specific astro turf was tested by scientists and found to contain lots of chemicals and high concentrations of lead, even at dangerous levels! like i said tho must be lots of different types made different ways!

i think it'll be a doddle to clean aswell as looking cool, vacume it with the gravel sucker!-)

will do, i'll post up some pics of the test tank as soon as the grass arrives....

theres always one, dont try to sugar coat your opinion or nothin lip... you must have loads of friends:)

Why did you feel the need to post two threads on the same subject, only 7 minutes apart :duh:

It would be smart to contact the company that makes it about getting an MSDS report for it.
