Just got my first red oscar:D ,and chose him or her by her color.
Now i read the eye-spot on its tail will come in time...
Is this true or are there varieties who will never develop the eye-spot?
just curious,greetz.

they usually do have eye spots but there is the odd occation that you could get one without

usually you can tell that it's female if it developes a bump on it's head.
like my female that is at a new home now!

you can't sex oscars! venting only works some time, there is no sure way of doing it. and bump on the head? nothing to do with it...

and most oscars do develop the occeli, some wild oscars in fact have several. i have never seen an oscar without one... or at least i can't remember.

Im not sure my baby oscar has one as well?

females are also bigger bodied than the males.
