Im going to attempt to handle my tokay.Ive had him for about two or 3 monthes now.He used to hang on the groung alot but now is constanlty on the glass.when i atempt to hold it should i wear gloves.

I would like to invite all Tokay owners to try this:
Hold your Tokay and with your free hand, extend your index finger and place it horizontially into his mouth. DO NOT PULL AWAY! You could hurt the Tokay if you do. Let him clamp down on your finger.

See? No big deal.:) It's difficult to tame an animal if you are afraid of it. Take the gloves off and get busy.

If I did that my finger would be bleeding pretty good. Other than that I guess no big deal.

wow that sounds crazy to even try that:ROFL:

It may sound crazy to try but IMO, it's even crazier to own an animal that you fear. Letting it bite will simply show that it's no big deal. If you think i'm crazy, at least try it and prove me wrong. I've done it with very large Tokays and it merely tickled.;)

If you feel more comfortable it wouldnt hurt to wear gloves, but no need for a big thick pair, you could just try the latex ones, long as they dont have any chemicals or powder etc on them. If its small, i wouldnt bother, just use your hands. If it clamps on to your finger, it wouldnt hurt and you'd only be effected by the shock of it doing it. Then wait until hes had enough holding on to you lol. just got to keep going. I know with snakes you dont put them straight back after agressive behaviour (like biting) as they can learn that they do it, they get put back. Dunno if it applies to tokays though

Just let him bite you initially and then you will never fear the bite again. I bet my 7" grass pickerel has a nastier bite than your tokay! Made one of my friends hand bleed on 3 fingers in one bite!:WHOA: I was so proud of him:grinno:

You could also try sitting on your hand for about 5 min then putting it in there:screwy:
