Well, we have some bad news and some good news ... good news is rays are both doing very well, female has healed up very nicely and has gotten 90% of her appetite back ... also the pups have hit a growth explosion, the female pup is almost ready for the big tank, i will most likely sell the male ... bad news is the bambusa died ... came home Tuesday from work and noticed 1 of the lids was moved, which never happens, and lots of water on the top of the tank, along with a powerhead cord was pulled ... so i turned on the lights and started looking at the ATF's to see any injuries, figuring it was one of them spazzing out, but it wasnt ... then i noticed the bambusa was swimming a little strange and had a mark on his head ... by Wednesday he wasnt able to swim anymore and was just getting blown around causing havoc in the tank so i euthenized him, knowing there was no way he was going to recover ... just further proof that a good knock to the head can cause death ... nobody ever bothered him so it wasnt fighting or stress, he most likely just got startled by something and smashed into things ... he was 21 inches long, and went from 7 inches to 21 inches in a year ... pretty amazing growth ... i did like him, he had character and wasnt fussy about anything, but he was reckless when getting food and his sheer size would stress the ATF's out so maybe this is a blessing in disguise, not to mention the fact that i would have needed to upgrade my tank sooner, since his growth is insanely fast, but either way he was a neat fish and i will miss him

Too bad about the bambusa...check out mine that became fish jerky after it jumped out last year.

Sucks man, guess these guys are prone to jumping, or in my case trying to jump .... just strange because he was not easily scared, and far from skittish, and kind of clumsy and reckless in his attack of pellets, at least when compared to the dorado, or ATF's, so its weird that all of a sudden he did this .... sorry for your loss as well ExoticFishGuy, they are a cool fish, and personable one might say, and their extreme growth and tolerance of a huge range of temps makes them unique

was wondering ExoticFishGuy, tough to tell from your pic, if yours had any color in his fins or body yet? Mine was completely silver, with dark greyish fins, but i know when mature they have very beautiful yellows and oranges ... just curious to know why mine didnt show any, whether its because the color comes at maturity/size, male/female, kept in aquaria vs the wild or any other reason

Dont know if anyone has ever experienced this, but my Dorado went on a 3 week hunger strike ... he would attack pellets, but then spit them out ... then all of a sudden he started eatin

Sorry, didnt mean to send yet ... he started eating again, but more than i've ever seen ... he literally gets like 30 massivores in his mouth, to the point that his throat is bulging like a chipmunk collecting nuts ... i'll try and get a vid tonight, its crazy

Need to get some pics up soon, but have a few updates, albeit a little wordy, as i am known to babble a bit .... everyone is continuing to grow, if a bit slowly, but there have been some issues ... everytime i lose a fish my goliaths seem to begin fighting, the latest and worst being the loss of the bambusa .... the last few months have seen a couple eye injuries that have unforunately for 1 become semi permanent .... however there is a good side to this ... the smaller and less appealing one, to me at least, was beating on the larger for a few months, then i guess the larger one turned and really hurt the smaller ones eye .... i dont know if he will ever be able to see out of it again, since the pupil is about half the size as the pupil in his good eye and he doesnt seem to see out of it at all, although he is still eating and behaving normally ... the good note is now the competition between the 2 is gone, with the smaller now being passive, so hopefully the larger will grow a lot soon ... we'll have to see

Everyone else in the tank is normal, and Dorado is still eating like a horse .... i expect him to hit the 2 foot mark before any other fish (excluding the tarpon as he is already 2 ft, and the goonches) Dorado is the boss of the swimmy fish, although he doesnt seem to fight anyone and the supreme ruler of the tank is my large IT dat putting the dorado and other dats in line, but never going after the ATF's or Armatus ... Armatus charges the tigers, and nudges, but never bites, and the other dats actually fight with eachother most, and the Armatus sometimes ... so the checks and balances system is still in effect and working pretty effectively except for the 2 goliaths nipping eachother ... the Vatf is the boss of the ATF's judging by his aggressive eating and the fact that the goliaths dont go for a piece of food if the V seems to want it, but dont see the VATF fighting with anyone .... while the goliaths have nips on their sides at times, the VATF is always flawless unless he slams into something which happens occasionally

The largest recent set back has to do with my mature male/female hystrix pair .... only a week or 2 ago i realized my female was pregnant again, seeing movement inside her so i was expecting a couple more months until birth considering her first litter felt like it took forever and i saw movement for 2 months before birth ... every wed morning is my water change ritual, however i felt inspired tues and did it then thinking after work i could have wed all to myself ... seemed like a good plan, until i turned the lights on Wed afternoon and saw that my female gave birth and the pups were literally in pieces throughout the tank ... not sure how many were eaten entirely, but found 2 dead, and only 1 male survivor who is injured but seems to be doing ok .... hopefully he pulls through ... felt horrible for the pups, not really having a chance against so many large predators ... most likely dorado, tarpon, and the it dats were to blame for the carnage judging by their bellies, but who knows ... hopefully by her next litter the goonches will be back in the big tank with everyone else and i can use the 220 solely as a nursery for her to give birth in and wont have a catastrophe like this again .... feel bad for the pups, and man if i just did my normal wed routine, i would have been down there at 7am and may have been able to fish them out before this all happened, but hey hindsight is always 20/20 .... i guess on a positive note, now i know my pair of rays are indeed a breeding pair so hopefully they will again

Anyways, thats the update on the boys (and girls) and i'll get a vid up soon of everyone at play! Lol

Thanks for letting me come and see your fish bro. Djaalix's fish are all 20"+ without a doubt and nothing is the same as seeing them in person. Was able to get this feeding video of his fish taken last week: Watch in 1080p if possible

Haha thanks for posting man, vid looks great ... my voice on the other hand not so great! Haha, thanks Deezus, hope the male hystrix pup works out great for you and you have him for years to come
