I would like to start off by saying that I am new to tiger fish. I have experience with other monster fish but I have been looking into getting an African tiger fish for a while and I have a few questions. What are their temperaments/ behaviors like. Ex: aggressive, skittish, schooling. what are good tank mates for atff and atfv? What are bad tankmates? Ex: tarpon bichir arowana( African and silver) gar lungfish knife fish odoe. Just what to know what I can keep them with. Also can I what would be best to grow a 5 inch out in? A 60 gal or 75 gal? 60 is just shorter. And any recommendations on substrate, decor, lighting, flow/ filtration and or plants? As well as food recommendations. Also do I have to worry about getting bit? I’m usually careful around all of my fish but those teeth are serious. Any support, advice and information/ insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Im pretty sure most knifefish wouldnt be safe with them, especially with the pointy tails, and them moving pretty slow most of the time might make a fish assume its injured/dead making it an easy prey.

But i have no irl experience whatsoever with the atf so i might be wrong.

I would be careful with your fingers when those fish get big enough, i mean i even get a little nervous when my +-15-20cm chalceus is checking out my hand when im moving stuff or cleaning haha, it does makes it a bit more exciting tho for sure

Thanks for the input. What species of chalceus do you have? Do they have teeth?

Mine is the yellowfin chalceus, i thought it was a pinktail first but later learned here that those dont have the yellow fins.

They do have little teeth, nothing to seriously worry about but im not used to being bit yet because hasnt really happened yet but i figure it will happen sooner or later
