ATF update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya I am going to get one but I just want to get my tank settled and stable for a little. I have been riding a little roller coaster here the past couple weeks with a mini cycle and the new rays and treating the dats for parasites so I just want to let things settle down for a little while.

So has your tank finished cycling yet, I brought the tiger home and set his tank up the same day. I always do that weather it's salt or fresh water and never had any issues. I know you've got rays tho so they might not be as forgiving. I've been Using black water extract for my fish since I started my school of cariba piranhas, suppose to Imitate the Amazon waters

Upon reviewing this again, I'm strongly inclined to think forskahlii. Note the way the FATF has a smaller head and a dorsal fin that it notably ahead of the pelvic fin insertion points. Your fish is similar enough to my old FATF that I feel comfortable calling this one. Sometimes seeing them side by side can make all the difference.

Aauuugggghhhhh!!! Chicxulub the suspense is killing me, I see a difference in your brevis. If starting from the skull, the brevis body evenly declines leaving the skull to be the tallest part of the body. With my ATF, right arond the mid section or dorsal fin is the tallest part of the body then slimming down at the skull. My other question is if all ATF fins at the tip turn up or curve because his pelvic and pectorial fins are starting to up sweep like a plane wings

My brevis was kinda thin from breaking him off of live. The area immediately behind the head is thickest on a fish that isn't so thin.

The proportion of the length of the head to the body and the size of the eyes to the head is what matters. A brevis has a larger head if the fish are the same length. If both a brevis and a FATF have a head that's the same size, the FATF will have larger eyes.

The shape of the fins doesn't really matter. They can be damaged and grow back wierd. A fish's fins are as useful for species identification as a humans hairdo.

It's crazy because I'm from the area and I would go to Beltway Aquarium everyday and looked at this guy for nearly 3 weeks and couldn't decide whether to buy him or go with the GATF instead, lol! I went with the GATF instead, but he's a beauty.
