there is a stable population that lives in freshwater.......

they are in the st john's river in fl.
 
yeah but the freshwater ones put out a LOT more urea in order to osmoregulate. More urea = faster water quality deterioration. It would probably be easier to keep these guys in brackish or even salt water.
