Atlantic needlefish(Strongylura marina) Are probably my favorite fish next to gars(:headbang2), and although they are generally thought of as marine species, they have been caught quite often times in freshwater, and I have found reports of breeding in freshwater. So to get to my actual question, does anyone think/know if it is possible to keep a couple of these in full freshwater if they are slowly acclimated from a young age and if they where caught in brackish water:confused: If anyone has any answers/gueses/suggestions, plz reply!

Thanks!:)

minnowmagnet just had one that died because he kept it in freshwater his whole life

i would love to have one if it can live in freshwater... these are the big ones that get like 3ft right?

I'm not sure if they get 2, 3, or 4ft long. It's hard to find any records for them.

awesome fish, i've seen one in it's native habitat while snorkeling (in salt water). There was a large school of chubs and they were feeding on them. It was awesome, sorry, that probabaly didn't answer your question.

Here in Australia we have a pure freshwater member of the genus Strongylura krefftii which grow to 30" +. I have always wanted to keep these very interesting fish. Another Aussie MFKer is the only person I know who has kept them he said they were no problem when small but were very skittish and prone to jumping when they grew larger.

there are sooo many oddball fish (that are common freshwater game fish somewhere) that you would expect someone to be keeping them, but it turns out a lot of those specie, people just dont keep them for some reason xD and thats what make them special
