Strongylura marina The latin name says it all! I had two of them a while ago.I put them in a 210 salt water tank with the salinity at 28ppt. These were a little more than a foot long. They didn't live long and I didn't repeat the attempt.

My tank was grossly too small for them. They jump like kangaroos, and reach swimming speeds that simply make them a bad plan for aquaria. These guys bashed their faces in on the end of the tank in the first 10 seconds. They have piss poor maneuvering skills and can't turn for squat. They swim in long straight lines beautifully though!

They spawn in fresh and brackish water and are well documented to migrate between lower salinity waters and open ocean seasonally.They grow to be 4' long, and they school.


You would not be able to keep one in fresh water indefinitely. You probably couldn't keep one in salt water indefiinitely either!
 
there are real brackish needles they could be kept in fw if you adjusted them slowy
