Atlantic rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, i found a awesome deal for these stingrays and i hate to pass up a deal. So i am gonna ask you, sorry if this is irritating but i want to ask. Can i put 1 or 2 of these stingrays in a 75g if i make it a brackish or even a full marine set up? I would be upgrading it later on.

Definitely not 2, but I think you can get by with one. I use Instant Ocean and keep mine on the heavier brackish side, and have about 12x filtration going at all times (3 separate filters - 2 on the back, 1 canister). In one level of the canister, I took out the bio-balls and filled it with ammo-chips to further reduce ammonia/nitrates. She's been doing great with this set up, always ate well until I changed out the substrate. Took it out, and she's back to her normal self again.

Also, I realized another reason why she may have stopped eating and lost weight. About a day or two before I changed the substrate, I started buying a different kind of shrimp that was smaller and already peeled and tail removed (raw, frozen). I don't think she liked them, which is why she didn't eat them, and I also think they had less nutrition than the larger shell-on ones that I had been using previously (I de-shell them because she doesn't ever eat it anyway). I bought more of the regular ones today and she gulped them down in a heartbeat. Turned her nose up at crab meat and salmon though. :/ If you get a sabina, I'll keep my fingers crossed that yours is less picky than mine when it comes to food.

I would either upgrade to a 120 which its depth is 24".

The only issue i am having is now is convincing my parents into letting me do it. I already am getting a fire eel and some other fish for another 75g that i am gonna have to upgrade to a large tank later on in life.

I plan on making a custom tank about 7x3.5x2.5

You know, just saying that shows me i should not get 1 now and wait tell i get my own place, but i am gonna start learning now. ;)

But that is my plan since i am in Florida. Thanks for the help guys.

If you're still living at home, I would definitely wait. The main reason being that it's expensive to have to upgrade two tanks -- the one I'm looking at right now is $1900 tank + stand. Doesn't include the hood, lights, glass tops, etc. Now imagine having to buy two of those for your two separate 75g setups once they need upgrading for the 2 separate animal groups you have within them. That's a heck of a lot of money. The 2nd reason being that you will eventually have to move out, and moving aquariums of this magnitude along with the sensitive animals they contain is a major undertaking and has to be carefully planned out, or the animals may stress and die. As it is I'm moving in 2 weeks just 30 minutes away, and have to face that daunting task. But, I figure if I can move from Texas to Wisconsin with 30 ball pythons, 4 cats, 2 rats, and a gecko, I can manage this. LOL!

Thats pretty funny. I figures that i would wait. Now that i have decided not to do a stingray tank i am now having to decide whether to start my new monster fish tank (since i had to break down my other one a while back) with a fire eel or just wait and do a simple community tank for now and when i move out get me my MONSTER FISH TANK as a moving out present. It would probably only be a few years.
