If you have any reason to why a single human life is equal in value to any animal I'd like to hear it. At the end of the day, people are worth more than animals.
That is terribly debatable haha, have you met SOME people???

That is incredibly absurd to value a fish let alone any animal to the life of a human.
Lets kill off anyone associated with poaching endangered species, since they'll survive at the price of just a few humans, since they are equal right? If we were going off some dumb liberal logic here.

I actually love people like you. The level of stupidity which you have reached is truly awe inspiring.
Where is the back up for the ridiculous statement you ended your poorly reasoned reply?
The pure and simply reason for why both humans and animals should be equal is that they both are alive. They both respire, they both eat, they both crap.
Even if you don't necessarily agree with that then cool. I'm not here to try convince the world of my ethical beliefs on this topic, however, you need to open your eyes a little. The moment we put a fish in a glass cage and feed it at our leisure, we have effectively taken a god like role over that tank.
It's our eco system and we designed it, we own it. Therefore, common sense dictates that you try and give that animal the best possible life no matter which side of the concept of equality you believe in.
Either way this pretty off topic In terms of the op.
To the op,
I appreciate you may not have meant that you will underfed and stunt but tbh that's basically what you'll have to do. If the fish is getting a natural amount of food, it just means it'll grow at a natural pace rather than a stupidly fast pace. On the flipside, You have to understand that to make it a accurate experiment to really see the effects then you'd need to put it in a very large enclosure with a insane amount of filteration to match up the environmental factors the gar would face in the wild. The reason gator gar aren't necessarily as large as they used to be in the wild are down to factors such as the chemical equilibrium isn't as balanced as they used to be. Fishing is a big factor as well. Increased stress due
a wide variety of factors.
The point is, It won't be an accurate experiment and tbh it's not really got a basis for the experiment to be conducted because at the end of the day..you are trying to keep it smaller.. as at a natural pace with natural feeding, it'll still grow big. Whereas the point of your experiment is to see how long you can keep it in small accommodation. Just food for thought![]()

Woah man inspired by stupid people? I find that pretty dumb myself and I'm the stupid one!
Didn't read what you had to say but I guess in some cases you could argue people aren't worth more than animals.
Value is relative. You're trying to measure soul with a ruler.
OP. Your decision to try to house a gator gar in a 125 gallon is a poor choice. YouTube "fun with my alligator gar" to see a video of a terribly stunted gator. That is torture in my opinion. Nothing short of it. You're talking about forcing a living being to live in a closet for the entirety of it's life on a diet that will ensure it is almost constantly experiencing hunger pangs--even in the 500g. That's oppression imo.
Basically you would be Mr. Dursley in this scenario, and the gar is harry potter. Except instead of being whisked away to a mystical, magical world where it will learn magic, become the chosen one, and save the world from the clutches of evil it will slowly wither away mentally until it is reduced to a shell of the being it was meant to be.
You can try to justify this, but the truth is--a 125g and 500g tank is absolutely not the right size for the fish you have selected. This isn't opinion, and there is no humane way around this conclusion.
