Attaching 2 Tanks???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont see why it wouldnt be worth it, saves me a ton of money, going to cost maybe 150 for a used 90 gallon that includes lights and filter (never hurts to have extra), Ply wood you can only see in through 1 side. This way it can be viewed from at least 3 sides depending on where it goes. Obviously at this point I dont know where Im going to put it

I don't get why this would be any different than building a 180 from scratch, other than the bottom being 2 pieces of glass instead of one, and really I could just remove the bottom glass all together and use plywood as my bottom, so using the glass and supporting it with plywood should be fine, unless im wrong. Using the glass from the 90's is cheaper than going and getting the glass custom made right? So I spend less so that I can spend more on stocking...

Ok well I did a bit more research and yeah I think that the glass on 90's isn't thick enough. It's under 1/2'' and the glass thickness sticky says for 48x36x24 you need at least 1/2'' thick glass. So I think I'm going to just suck it up for now.
Thanks for the input guys

If you pm DR. Joe or Basslover they have some interesting pictures of someone joining tanks together. It can work but it is more advisable to use the glass and build a larger plywood tank.

when i first read this thread the first thing i thought of was, glass thickness. glad you finally researched that. that build could of been disasterous

Yeah didn't think of it right away, so glad I did...I was ready to go...glad I didnt buy the other 90. Would have been a huge mess, maybe not right away but eventually. I know I could combine 2 tanks length wise and be ok, I wanted a deep tank.
Gota come up with a new project now...
