I don't think you'd lose a lot of moss shoving it in the wood, java FERN is what I shoved in my bit, and had I been more careful with the rhizomes it most likely would of been fine.I don't want to loose a lot of jave moss I only got a little bit from someone as java moss is very expensive in South Africa and hard to come by. It is really growing well and I think it's time to anchor it to something.
If you have a little, you'll soon have more. When attaching plants to rocks or driftwood, I generally just tie it with black or brown sewing thread. How much did you pay for the moss?I ended up doing the Java moss with super-glue anyway, all went well and my java moss is doing great, the fish too. I ended up doing some of my anubia nana too

Maybe one day i could pay you to ship me some given how excessive it gets when it grows and how bloody hard it is to find here
