as the title says. I will try to breed these fish. I understand they do not breed in captivity, but it will be worth the try. I have an 8ft by 4ft aquarium and some king piranha as a start. Any other suggestion?

since you are in Argentina I'm assuming by king piranha you mean pygocentrus nattereri "ternetzi" ???

ah...piraya is gonna be my second guess. good luck with that. what kind of setup you have for the breeding project?

i have many options. I have 900 liter and 1300 liter tanks (8x3x2 and 8x4x2.5). I have them in an 8x2x2 aquarium now with 3 fluval fx5 canister filters. I have 5 piraya estimated 12-13cm. not yet adult breeding fish. I have plastic plants, no sand. I will try any suggestions for changes.

I also have cariba that I may have better chances with breeding, but they are very small right now. 3cm

I don't think lighting and thunder has any major effect on them breeding, more so just with an environment that they feel comfortable enough to breed and you need to have at least a pair in the group, if they happen to be all same sex then it won't work.
you can try simulate wet/dry season as most of the amazonian fish time their breeding during wet season, some people will drop their water level then simulate rain fall but IMO those are not really necessary as our tanks are not deep enough to have a big impact on water pressure anyway. I would imagine during dry season the water quality would degrade as compare to wet season, nitrite build up, oxygen level drops, temperature increases, less food available, etc. then when wet season comes water quality improves, food increases, temperature drops with all the fresh cold rain water. maybe try to simulate those. I know someone with rbps that will spawn when there's a big storm out there so maybe time your water change when there's change in weather (more barometric pressure related than just lighting and thunder)??
