Is there a list of unacceptable words somewhere? I would've assumed the word you used in the thread you closed the other member brought up would've been on the list. I don't use profanity on here or in the real world. I know people have different understandings of what is profanity or not.

You can't say -------, ------, -----, -----, ---/------, ----, ----, ------, -----, -------, ----, ----, ----, ----, ----, ------, -----, or ----. <- This is most likely the closest thing to a list you are going to get.

If it sounds explicitly profane in any way, don't use it (common sense should tell you which words fall into this category).

I respect the mods here... Dealing with 50K+ people on a forum is no easy task... An Going trough the threads takes time...

As for the profanity... Its not hard to learn what is and whats not acceptable when you types said word and your reply shows up as a series of * symbols

As for oddball, to whoever said he only whines, i've actually seen him help a lot of people on this site...

+1 I've gotten 3 infractions (learned from them and haven't recieved any new ones in over a year), but I still respect all of the mods, especially the human fishkeeping encyclopedia who goes by the username "Oddball."

LOL.
I accidentally discovered that all those dashes would be asterisks.
;-)
common sense? that's extinct.

Yeah, when I started typing that post, I started to use asterisks, but thought better of it (didn't want people to think I was actually using the words that fill the blanks...).

LOL, nasty problem navigating this thread.

After 5 years of commercial fishing and 8 in the military, very little shocks or offends me other than out-and-out disrespect. In real life, I can be startled into an expletive, but usually rein it in before the actual "bomb" drops because that part of my life was well over a decade ago and in most areas language like that is to say the least, "frowned upon" or taken as a sign of poor manners or even poor breeding.

Some people think cursing emphasizes a point, and in certain crowds, it is. But it most crowds, it is not; in fact if anything, it causes your words to becomes totally inconsequential. One curse word, in a business environment, will not only cause people to quit paying attention to what you say, to them, it will discount any ground you had gained up to that point. One may be forgiven if you have gained enough ground, two, you better be a silver tongued devil, three, stick a fork in yourself, you were done two curses ago.

Even in areas where cursing is common, not cursing often or at all gets noticed. When I was in the military, I remember one drill instructor who never swore, but if you asked recruits who they'd rather get chewed out by, him, or any of the other drills, to a man they would reply, "The other drills". He could make you feel microscopic without ever swearing. It's an art form. I can do it in print, make every word drip acid, but he could do it on the fly. In the three years I worked with him I heard him swear one time. Trust me, when you develop a reputation for using only clean language, that is when swearing truly makes your words emphatic.

Swearing on a forum like this isn't needed anyways, although I think an exception should be make if you're able to use olde-timey lingo that has fallen out of grace and isn't as harmful as it was a hundred years ago...dagnabbed lilly livered cotton pokin scoundrals!!!

Most people aren't smart enough to figure out how to get around a ban, though.

Anyone that uses google can figure it out. Smart has nothing to do with it. Not that I condone these actions, just the way of the cyber world. I happen to be friendly in person with a few mods and gurus on some underground hacking forums these guys are smart reseting an ip is childsplay.

Wish oddball woulda made this thread before I got my infraction, cause then I wouldnt have. This discussion is proactive, spreading knowledge to those that didnt read the rules and dont relize what an infraction is.

I will never understand why some people feel that swearing is necessary on a fishkeeping forum.

The thing is that you have plenty of time to proof read and censor yourself before hitting "post reply".

There are some words that are more offensive then others. This site has censored those words. If you type in a certain word, it will automatically be censored. If you know what those certain words are and use symbols and/or manipulate the words to appear in an open forum, you will be infracted. If you use some of the words that aren't censored in an inappropriate matter, you can be infracted. "Ass" is not censored, however, if you say, "That's bad ass!" no problem. If you call someone an ass, you get an infraction.

It's your responsibility to read the TOS. Once you click yes, you agree to the terms. If you didn't read it before clicking, that's your problem.

Yeah, and if you didn't read the TOS, Li can turn you into his very own...
