Attention all MFK parents...

I keep a 75 gallon tank in the Child Care Center in the college where I work. Some of the kids really love it. Most of the questions they ask are pretty basic. What is that? What is it doing? Why do you change the water every week, doesn't the filter keep the water clean?" Stuff like that.


Actually over the last few weeks they ask me 'why is the water green?' and 'where did the angelfish go?' more than anything.

did you tell them that the water is green cuz you havent cleaned it? :ROFL: :D

where did the angelfish go?....time to have the "circle of life" talk :eek:
 
From my observations, fish are a great form of stimuli for kids. The hard part is getting them to not tap on glass.
 
im 15 and when i was like 7 my dad had a tank adn it got me into them about a year ago and now i got him back into the hobby so now our house is filled with tanks and my other brother who is 17 doesnt care about fish nor does my mother.

one of my friends always tells me the story about when they were kids and tapped on the glass their father would put a bucket over their heads and bang on it! :ROFL: :ROFL: :ROFL:
 
I gave my 21 year old stepson an old 52gal. flat back hexagon tank and stand that I had forever after he saw my tanks. He wanted to get an oscar. I helped him get it cycled and taught him the basics, now he has 3 tanks going, and is really into it. Monster fish keeper in the making!

I have trained my 2 year old daughter not to bang on the glass. She is really good about it too, the only time she might slip up is after we have one of my wifes friends over with a lil boy who is 6 months behind my daughter, he bangs on the glass and my girl thinks she can do it once he leaves. :swear: :duh:

I think there is nothing better for a growing mind then to have fish! Its like exposing them to classical music, plus it gives them an intrest that is far superiour to TV!
 
My daughter is 2-1/2 and is really into fish, not just because I am. She looks through fish magazines and when she gets library books she gets ones about fish. She is all excited because it's Shark week. It's really cool for me because it gives us something to do together and I need to get my time in now while she still wants to be around me! It is fun seeing the look on peoples faces in the pet stores when this little girl starts naming the fish.:D
