My rtc was never shy, and to this day has never hidden anywhere. He's always out in the open. I was hand feeding him when he was 1.5" long. I never had one that small and with larger fish in the tank he was in I thought for sure he'd hide. I raised him from 1.5" to 6" in a 10 gal, then from 6" to 9" in a 45 hex, and from 9" to 12" in a 90 gal, and now from 12" to 16" in the 1100 gal pond so far. He always ate within minutes of being put in his new tanks. Maybe I just got a strange one, or he's got fat kid desiese.
