are your jags swimming a lot and in your face begging for food, or do they hide a lot??

I had a pair once upon a time and I honestly only enjoyed them becaue they were breeding. When the male was alone I was always a little ticked off because he would hide. Only eat sometimes. etc

Was that just a lazy jag that I had or is that there characteristic. I am thinkiing of maybe buying one again but I want to know other peoples experience first.

when territorial fish like jags and dovii have a tank to themselves and no target fish, there is no reason for them to " patrol " i guess you could say, thats why they hide all day, i guarantee the minute you put some barbs or feeders in there it would go nuts.

Mine hid a lot until he a little size on him, maybe about 8-9". Now at 12-13" he's almost always out in the open and begging for food when he sees me. Granted he doesn't pace back and forth in the tank all day but he's not shy at all. A lot of the time he floats in one spot just chillin'. Nonetheless, Jags are awesome fish to keep...that's why so many people have them.

balton, you are my parachromis hero :D

Thanks O! You're my favorite Onion! :)

lol, how touching :D

i am just getting into parachromis, and am growing out 3 loiselli, 2 motas, and 2 jags. They are all under 2 inches. Hope they will like their up and coming 300g home

I love my Jags!! They are out all the time getting pissed off at everything. I just can't wait until the female lays her eggs. They aren't the most active swimming fish but they are still awesome with there behaviors. Mine are in a 125 and only recently verntured into the other end of the tank. I love Jags! I am actually thinking about just specializing in Mannies and maybe other parachromis but I am going to be setting up a couple breeding tanks maybe 4 or 5 125's for mutliple variants of mannies.

4-5 new 125's? Man that rocks are you serious? Sounds like a fun (and grueling lol) project. Can't say I blame you for wanting to specialize in Parachromis since they are my favorite genus.

And Onion you're getting a 300g? Kick A--.

well, it is a rubbermaid. I am seeding the scrubbies as we speak for my DIY filter. It will hopefully be temporary as well, as I want to get one of those target 1,500g pools! That will be awesome :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

jagger,my jag is awsome! he nipped me once during feeding but it was my fault, i was asking 4 it.it was hardly noticable. as far as hiding i dont thik he hides, just that he has his favorite places in the tank that gives cover or some way to get out of the light, u no so he can do his own thing, sleep whatever. i have my big tank next to the couch so when i am watching tv i can see him. and he comes right up to me shaking his head!he is my fav fish so far
