i used liquid rubber on a tank build that has been up since approx feb of 2012.
there are still no leaks.
like others have stated, when wet, it loses its hold on glass, and water contact will separate the zavlar and silicone from each other.
lesson learned, rough up the glass to give the zavlar something to hold onto.
zavlar will usually cure within 24 hrs, and be able to be filled at around 48 hrs. i waited longer just to be sure.
the smell does indeed go away. it is inert, with no leaching chemicals, water potable, and no VOCs.
