There's a place on the Santa Ana River/lake (more like a sewer than a lake) that stocks the lake with Sturgeons but you can't keep them. But there's a prize for catching them
lol i'll look into it.

go to santa cruz and go for lingcod, go up to the delta for sturgeon and stripped bass, come to the bay area for batrays and monster leopard sharks, I even have a secret spot in santa cruz for MONSTER CARP!!!! the last one I pulled out was 30 pounds and the common is about 20pounds. San Luis Obispo is also good for sharks, tuna, and rays.

If you need any tips on where to go PM me I know almost all the best fishing spots in california. Fishing is my specialty :)

awsome... any spots in the huntington or newport area?

if your anywhere near san pedro the dock in that area has a bunch of fishing boats that will take you out to fish near catalina island where you can catch rock bass, bonito, yellow tail, barracuda, and mackerel. if you do decide to go there i recommend the boat the pursuit ive been goin on that boat since i was a kid and ive never been disappointed

how far are you willing to drive?

uhh depends... i'll most likely be in huntington beach, but pacific coast highway will take us to newport easily. so either places will do.

thats a wide area to choose from. at huntington beach youll have great bat ray (my personal favorite) and shark fishing. also out on a boat you can catch tuna and there has been a strange migration of humbolt squid coming up around there from mexico. if you head north I would suggest stopping in alameda for some great bat ray fishing or even to the delta for stripers. if your going on a boat i would suggest around Huntington beach though.
