hi guys,
my Ruby Red Peacocks seem to be very quiet and shy, they don't eat when i feed them they wait ubtil i go then eat.
I saw the male eat and then spit the food out.
I have 1 Male and 2 females in a 110 litre tank, is there any thing i can do ?
length 122 cm
width 30 cm
hieght 36 cm
110 litre tank
I have a rena filstar xp3
TETRA TETRATEC APS300 AQUARIUM AIR PUMP 300lph 120-300L
And a Rena 200W Smart Heater / Heaterstat Unbreakable
Just the three Ruby Red Peacocks, the male now seems to be colouring up, just had them for 4 days.
I am feeding them Hikari, cichlid Gold Mini pellet.

It is pretty normal for them to taste and spit out their food for the first couple days or so of acclimating. And they are not eating while you are watching them because they sense you as a threat. They are still adjusting to their new home, but eventually they will associate you with food, and even recognize you, and come toward the surface anticipating a meal.

Give them time. My male albino Eureka stayed hidden for almost 3 weeks when I moved it to my Malawi tank. I didn't see him eat at all during the first week. This is after he spent a week in my quarantine tank (I always put my new fish in quarantine for a week).

Are you using sinking pellets or floating? My Africans like sinking pellets and ignore floating. I feed mine a mixture of NLS Thera A, Hikari Cichlid Excel, and Ocean Nutrition Veggie Pellets.

thanks guys, i feed them floating and sinking. i think i'm just nervous, lost my last batch of cichlids to my heater going nuts and blowing up in the tank. All my cichlids boiled.

I forgot about Omega One Super Color pellets as part of my sinking pellet mix.
