My large female Auratus is brooding some eggs, I noticed today during feeding as she spit a few out the collected them again. I just got a male much smaller than her two days ago. My question is what color would the eggs be if they are fertile or infertile. This is only the second time any of my fish have spawned and I caught it before eggs and fry are eaten.

The eggs will have a brown or black spot on them sometimes. The best thing to do after I have accidentally killed hundreds of potential baby cichlids. The first thing to do is to catch the female and stick her in a small tank by herself. After 18-21 days she will spit the fry you will see them swimming in the aquarium. Catch her and open her mouth with your finger cafullt on the surface of the water and make sure she doesnt have anymore fry left. This is the best survival technique for the fry. If your really want to speed up the technique for more fry get a bubbler off of ebay and put the fry in their. Dont have two auratus males because they will eventually kill each other.
