Hi, i have an auratus and a socolofi in a 200L tank. theyv been there for 5 mounths and they are 2 years old. in the last few seeks the aurotus changed his color from yellow to almost white. Im afriad that this change is due to some kind of problem or disease.. they fighting often but not harming eachother and the socolofi is the stronger one. bot of them are active and have good appettite.and both of them initiate battles. when the aurtos does it he changing is color so the lower part of his body turns black. what do you think is the reason for the discoloration? thank you

Are they the only 2 African Cichlids in the aquarium? If so if both male one probably won't survive for long. They are fighting for dominance eventually it will get very brutal.

they are the only fish in the tank. i think the auratus is female, all of this setup is temp.. and im monitoring them and can split the tank in case .. i actually did it afew days ago beacuse i thought the color change is sign of distress, so right now the tank is split and each of them is alone

Males will be dark dark blue to black with a light blue to white stripe, females and juveniles are yellow gold with black stripe. These are one of the mbuna I used to breed and yes they are quite aggressive. I agree this white coloration is stress related. Was it dark before it turned white? I think the females were just as aggressive as the males if not more. This is a good algae grazer too so pristine tanks with no algae is not good for these guys, unless you suppliment with algae wafers.

Looks like a male starting to get his color. Mine was like that and then it started to turn black.
