They apparently can keep Jardinis and Aussie lungs.

Their list may be counted on one hand, but it's a damn good list if you ask me.

very well said.
AULs... sweet. Even if some don't have the money to buy them, a nature trip would be sufficient for an encounter.

Going by the lists I have come across none of my fish are on there.Dovii,Synspilum,Freidrichstalii,GT,RT,JD,RD,Jag,Cuban.
All these fish you can buy from local lfs. That list only stops importation to Australia from what I have been told and does not govern what is already here in Aquaria.I see Asian Arowanas for sale in Sydney sometimes advertised in classifieds but you can,t import them. This link shows the sort of stock normally seen here in Brisbane QLD.This is a lfs near me.Heaps of them are not on the list.

That's strange because just about every lfs has stocked Oscars for as long as I can remember. Maybe the list is poorly regulated, I've never had the fish police at my place. I think a lot of species get banned because some **** releases their fish in the local river and they compete with or eat smaller native species. So whatever the species that becomes a problem in the wild gets put on the list. Many of our subtropical river systems are ideal environments for cichlids ( and other FW tropicals) so they can get out of hand really fast. I keep aussie natives, so it's not so much that I'm in favour of over regulation, but if it's the only way to stop people releasing into the wild then so be it.:D

some countries (ours being one of them) indeed do have strict importation rules but don't really regulate much the species already inside (and breeding inside) the country.

And take note that this extends to other pet types...reptiles, scorpions, spiders, etc. Is this also the case in Australia?

Thats what I have found and been told here many a time.According to the list i"m illeagle as hell. All commonly sold here in stores, classifieds etc.I even sell fry back to the shops.I think the only fish that are allready here that you can't keep are those listed as noxious species and that is governed by state laws being that we have broad climate conditions across the country.

That list is a list of permitted fish, Oscars are legal here is Australia, I have five. There are plenty of cool fish that are permitted that look or act similar to the prohibited fish. I wanted either a Red or Golden Arowana but only Australian species are permitted so I have to get a Leichardti or a Jardini, not as stunning but still an awesome looking fish.

Three of my Oscars when the were younger in my 55.
