Hello
I finally got my first Aussie Lungfish (approx 8 inches). He has been in my tank for a few days, and the conditions are perfect. The tank is 650 gallons. His tank mates never bother him.
But he stays in a corner of a tank, behind logs the whole time:(. I know this behaviour is probably normal but he has only moved back and forth a few times in 3 days. I have to drop food on his head to get him to eat.

I just want to know what peoples experiences are with Aussie Lungfish, how active do they find them?
Will they become more active, or is this normal (never moving)?

The breeder says he was microchipped and they need some time to recover, but he doesn't deliver them for a week after the procedure.

I like the little guy, he is cute, just hoping he is fine and livens up a bit.

Here are some pics of him when I first put him in the tank.

Smaller AUL are very shy and skittish and pretty much hides most of the time. They become more active as they get older and swimming around looking for food. Just let it settle in first as it may take weeks or even months. At already 8" it should become active in no time. Mine started to come out more at around 10-12". Now it only rest when it got a full stomach. Once hungry it will swim around or vacuum the sand.

+1 Mine is very active when it's hungry and will sleep in the corner of the tank for days when it's full. I feed mine a variety of food and it like everything! Frozen/thawed Brussels sprouts, tilapia filets, peeled shrimp, massivor and algae wafers are it's staple.

I fed my old AUL: mealworm, MP, tilapia, FD krill.

Try to google it. Anyway, your AUL is very cute.

Could you PM me with the breeders Details? .Last I herd the lungfish breeder sold all his stock to someone else.

they grow relatively fast given ample food and space, mine from 10inches to 19inches in just 8mths.

personally feel that sinking pellets and chopped shrimps are the best.
