Murray River Turtles are not native to our area, they are native to the Murray River. So technically it is an intorduced species.
Don't go assuming mate. His mum is a licensed wildlife carer, and has a passion for reptiles, with 5 ponds in the backyard and 4 tanks for turtles and other reptiles (mainly water based). The tank he has it in now has got a UV light just so you know.
And if that doesn't make it clear that he takes great care of his stuff, then I don't know what will.
Technically, it is a Native Animal, it lives in Australia. Turtles dont have to be confined to one river, they are aloud to walk around and go places. It may not be Native in your area but it is still a Australian Native Animal, that requires a licence.
Since you posted that you took a turtle from its habitat and not specify where it was going, ofcourse im going to assume!

Dude OMG, over time many turtles have spread to different rivers. And yes probably that turtle came from another river where it was born around your area and so on.
