ok heres the deal does driftwood only come form America ??

if we go to a river can we pull out a branch and stick it our tank ?
if we cant
can we get a certain kind of tree stump thats in Australia to put in our tanks
??

go get some mangrove root or something ?

yeah ive got 2 huge pieces of tree trunk in the corners of my tank that i found in bushland

if its been in the water tho its prolly better as some of the tannins are already leached

i wouldnt put in anything thats still green like eucalyptus or pine but anything dried should be ok

i do this is what it looks like

a lot of driftwood is from Malaysia...or at least I assume it is since its called "malaysian driftwood"

It should be fine, unless the river is polluted. The wood could have harmful chemicals absorbed into it that will leech into the water and kill the fish.

I do, and i reckon its better because its already waterlogged! I always worry about buying 'driftwood' (although i have in the past) that huge tracts of woodland are being cut down in africa and indonesia.

yeah i was just thinking of going to to my local river were i catch eels and bream
and see if theres any good dead tree branches at low tide
i wasnt going to go cut down a few branches from a live tree lol
but thnx for the info :)
so no pine or ecliptis tree branches
