Hi,

The wife’s been talking about emigrating from the UK to OZ .... I’m still not sold!

A question I have is
‘How will it affect my hobby?’

Being in the UK I can keep pretty much whatever fish I want but obviously this is going to be restricted to a large degree if we move.

My main interest is predatory fish and Plecos.

I’m currently keeping SA Arowana, Stingrays, Cichla, L numbers and American Cichlids! I also have a Koi pond.

Any info would be greatly appreciated ?
 
Aside from the large number of otherwise commonly kept monster fish being banned the prices of the tropical fish that are available are very high there according to posts I've read here over the years.

Yeah, we're blessed in the uk like that, we can keep practically anything. But if i had the opportunity to move from the drab and dreary uk to a place like Australia it wouldn't bother me if I had to give the hobby up.......well, maybe that's stretching it a bit, but even so all it will mean is you are restricted from keeping certain fish, but the positives of moving to Australia, for me, far outweigh that negative.

Haha I totally agree with that!

The fishkeeping isn’t a major factor. We’ve just got on the property ladder and I’ve started my own business so by moving we’d be back to square one if you know what I mean ....
 
I'm in the uk and would love to move to oz. I would put up with restrictions on fish species and just keep what was available. However, if I ever came face to face with some of australias spiders I would sh#t myself and have cardiac arrest.
I'm staying put.

Spiders don’t bother me can’t say the same for the wife though ?

Chickens and Magpies have been killing people lately in Aus too...
