Looking to start an aquaponic system with red claw crayfish. Are they legal to own in California?

I wasn’t planning on importing, there’s someone in my area selling individuals from his own aquaculture project

They don't tasted terribly nice, at least not compared to Macrobrachium (sp?) - see if there's anybody doing the Thai blue-claw as they're gorgeous (looking & tasting) & less likely to murder one another. They won't breed unless you set up a brackish spat-catch basin, which ain't rocket-science (check YouTube), but likely easier to buy a cohort, grow harvest & start again.
