the gar situation is a tricky one. firstly though the amnesty period for gars was not done in nsw to my knowledge.
qld had an amnesty but for about six weeks and only for the first lot of noxious listed fishes.

gars turned out to be on two lists for a mistake reason, but maybe because of the two species. anyway, it is being resolved soon.

industry or hobby has asked for gars to be reconsidered to be allowed to stay off the noxious list but we dont know if they will as of yet.

i think four lists have come out, four tranches. each time that list gets added to what they want to consider noxious. by the time the fifth or sixth come out gars will be on it or not. and that is when the shops will have to remove the fish from the premises or face fines. my guess would be the shops know that the gar is still not yet on the future noxious list.
having said that, just because the fish is not banned for being noxious in nsw right today, technically it could be taken away anyway.

i will believe there is a breeder in sydney of rtgs when i see eggs in a brood fishes mouth with fish hanging out off them. a lot of people will claim they are bred here cause they think it makes them lawful.
so anyone buying "bred here fish" still needs to be aware of the rules which are soon to be updated.

Oh well, getting back into keeping fish after at least 10yrs break and I had to get fascinated by a type that could loose me the house and shirt off my back.
I believe I will re think and stick to safer waters.
Sincerely thanks for the info. Mick

yeah but keep it in mind. i dont mean to sound overly pessimistic at all. im more so just explaining the dire possibilities.
ive been watching the process and things might just change for the better but its been two years in the making so far and might be that long again before allowed. we should know something about the direction they will go fairly soon though and i will advise here.
it would be a shame to spend so much only to find in six months they plan on adding them to the noxious heavy fine list thats all. if they chose to make strict rules, if you ever need to sell to buy a new shirt or whatever, it could be hard to recoup the cash and resale value in an arow is good to have and that kind of depreciation would suck.
