I'm a big fan of Chanchitos... and these are some we caught in a little pond called "Canada El Sauce" between Artigas and Bella Union, Uruguay.
A lot of the Chanchitos in this neck of the woods have a really pretty red belly. These pictures are in non-breeding coloration. When they're ready to breed they get a really dramatic striped pattern.
Pictures 1-3: the male
Picture 4: the female
Picture 5: road sign
Pictures 6-7: the collection spot - just a little pond!
We also caught some BIG pikes, some Cnestrodon livebearers and some Gymnogeos at this site... also some Cory cats if I remember correctly.
