I'm a big fan of Chanchitos... and these are some we caught in a little pond called "Canada El Sauce" between Artigas and Bella Union, Uruguay.

A lot of the Chanchitos in this neck of the woods have a really pretty red belly. These pictures are in non-breeding coloration. When they're ready to breed they get a really dramatic striped pattern.

Pictures 1-3: the male
Picture 4: the female
Picture 5: road sign
Pictures 6-7: the collection spot - just a little pond!

We also caught some BIG pikes, some Cnestrodon livebearers and some Gymnogeos at this site... also some Cory cats if I remember correctly.

Great pics Matt. Love the collection location pics. That first pic almost looks like a mini little trimac. Great redish/pink belly on that one.

Nice! I'm becoming a chanchito fan, just got some oblongum and checking on red ceibals

They'll do great outdoors!

Ironically, Red Ceibal (which is the only Uruguayan chanchito being farmed for the hobby, thanks to Spencer Jack) is only found in a single spot in Eastern Uruguay (probably even smaller than this one).
